Smithtown, date night just got hands-on.

Taste Buds Kitchen is now open at 102 W. Main St., and it is not your usual dinner reservation. Here, you make the meal yourself.

Owner Cesar Del Carpio sums it up nicely: “It’s a kids’ kitchen by day, adult kitchen by night.”

Your new date night

Adult classes cover handmade pasta, sushi, Thai-inspired dishes, French cuisine and Spanish tapas. Fresh pasta has been the big hit so far.

Each class starts with a demo from the head chef. Then you and your partner head to your station and cook a full meal, with instructors guiding every step.

The best part? Kitchen assistants clean up between courses and handle the dishes. No arguing over who washes the pots.

A Long Island story

Del Carpio says the response since opening has been strong, especially for adult classes and kids’ birthday parties. Little chefs ages 2 and up can join caregiver-and-me classes, and there are camps, school-break programs, private parties and corporate team-building nights too.

His goal is simple: make cooking approachable, even if you burn toast. “We want to be the cooking story that people are able to tell,” he said.
