JENNIE just gave us a dance record for the holidays, and it’s straight disco.
The BLACKPINK star released “Someone to Hold” today, Friday. It’s the lead single from the soundtrack to Netflix’s new animated movie Steps, and it’s her first song ever for an animated film.

Neo-disco, strings and a slap bass
JENNIE wrote it with Justin Tranter, Julia Michaels and Jason Gill. Tranter produced it, and he called the track “pure danceable joy inspired by vintage organic dance pop.”
Think shimmering strings, a bass line you feel in your chest, and stacks of JENNIE’s vocals on top. Exactly the kind of song we love to play.
A fairy tale with a twist
Steps is a musical comedy from directors Alyce Tzue and John Ripa. Amanda Seyfried voices Cinderella, Ali Wong is Lilith and Stephanie Hsu is Margot, Nikki Glaser is Priscilla and Bette Midler is the Fairy Godmother. Amy Poehler is a producer.
The directors say the song represents the sisterhood between Lilith, Cinderella and Margot, and it shows up at a big emotional moment in the film.
It’s been a huge fall for JENNIE. Her remix of Tame Impala’s “Dracula” went Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, and now she’s got a new one of her own.
