A Long Island story
Oyster Fest is the North Shore’s homecoming. It regularly pulls tens of thousands of people into the hamlet, and crowds have hit as many as 200,000 over a weekend.
The oysters keep it local too. Organizers say the lineup includes oysters from Long Island growers and harvesters. Live music runs all weekend in the park and along Audrey Avenue, and the pirates are back on the waterfront.
Families with kids who get overwhelmed by big crowds get their own time on Sunday morning, with rides running just for them before the gates open to everyone.
Your empty shells can do some good, too. The fest is part of the Town of Oyster Bay’s shell recycling program, which puts discarded shells to work for the local marine ecosystem.
One tip: parking near the fest is extremely tight. Use the alternate lots and shuttle buses and save yourself the headache.
Grab your crew, bring your appetite, and keep it locked to WLIT.FM for more of the best weekends on Long Island.
