Westhampton Beach and Stony Brook, this one is for you. Two Long Islanders just had big moments on national TV.
Laube scores for the Raiders
Dylan Laube waited 32 regular-season games for his first NFL touchdown. On Sunday, Oct. 11, the Westhampton Beach native finally got it, punching in a 2-yard run early in the fourth quarter for the Las Vegas Raiders against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Family, friends and old teammates made the trip to see it.
He finished with four carries for nine yards and three catches for 16 yards in a 45-17 loss. He also caught the very first NFL pass from rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the No. 1 overall pick. And he has been a weapon on kickoffs, leading the league at 33.4 yards per return.
Kay closes the door in Houston
On Wednesday, Sept. 30, Stony Brook’s Anthony Kay picked up the win as the White Sox beat the Astros 7-3 to sweep their Wild Card Series. In his first MLB postseason appearance, the lefty came in with Chicago up 4-3 and runners on, retired Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve, and escaped a bases-loaded jam. It was Chicago’s first playoff series win since 2005.

A Long Island story
Laube ran for 2,680 yards and 47 touchdowns as a Westhampton Beach senior in 2017, leading an undefeated Long Island championship team and sharing the Hansen Award. Kay starred at Ward Melville, went to UConn, was a Mets first-round pick, and won a title in Japan before going 10-9 in 31 starts for Chicago this year.
