The stories behind the vault
“She’ll Never Be Me” was co-written with Justin Timberlake back in 2001. Britney recorded it for this album, but it was left unfinished and cut. It came out in October as the first taste of the reissue.
“My Big Secret” comes from the Neptunes, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. It was rumored to have been offered to Janet Jackson first, according to Rolling Stone.
The original album gave us “I’m a Slave 4 U,” “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” and “Lonely.” Twenty-five years later, it’s getting a second life.
Back in 2001, Rolling Stone’s review summed up the album in one line: “Britney just wants to be Britney.” This edition lets fans hear a little more of the Britney who didn’t make the final cut.
A pop story
Britney hasn’t been putting out new music, so five unheard songs from her prime is a big deal for anyone who grew up on her. On Long Island, that’s a lot of us.
