- Alexa Cox (Central Islip), Miss Long Island 2027; Valentina Chapman (Franklin Square), Miss Long Island Teen 2027
For Alexa, this one was eight years in the making. She won Miss Long Island Teen 2018 at her very first pageant, then came back for the big crown. She’s only the second former Teen titleholder to do it, right after outgoing queen Geanna Koulouris of Bethpage.
Her platform is the “G.R.I.T. Mindset Mantra.” Give it your all, redo if necessary, ignore the urge to quit, tap into your resources. She plans to take it on a middle school speaking tour across the Island.
A Long Island story
Valentina is a sophomore at H. Frank Carey who has played travel soccer since she was 9. After years of dealing with bullying, she turned it into her platform, “Let’s Create & Be Kind,” and has logged more than 1,100 hours of community service.
“In a world where you can be anything, be kind,” she said. We’ll take that on repeat.
It was a big night for executive director Leanne Pinard Baum too, celebrating 10 years running the show. Congrats to both new queens. Keep it locked to WLIT.FM.
