How we got here

Back in April, Summit said his Rimowa suitcase had broken for the sixth time on tour. He’d had enough.

So he named the case Samantha, took it to a parking lot and set it on fire. The soundtrack? Justin Bieber’s “Sorry.” His caption: “end of an era.” The clip blew up, and rival luggage brands jumped into the conversation.

Now the bags get punished

Away didn’t just mail him a free bag. It built a whole campaign around him.

In a series of social videos shot in Miami, Summit puts Away’s aluminum cases through the wringer: huge drops, a car drifting into a suitcase and, of course, more fire. Away says its real-world testing runs more than 900 hours on that aluminum shell.

Away’s VP of Brand, Quynh Dang, said the moment “wasn’t about chasing a trend.”

Why we love it

Most luggage ads show a bag rolling through an airport. This one shows a DJ trying to destroy it. That’s a lot more fun.

And honestly, every Long Islander who has watched a bag come off the belt at JFK with a busted wheel gets it.
