A Long Island story
His mom Danielle wrote to the town months ago with a big ask. On garbage days, the family eats breakfast on the front porch so Kieran never misses the truck.
That’s exactly where the crew found him. Outside, before dawn, waffle in hand.
Kieran’s hero is Jose Pineda, the worker who rides on the back and always waves and points to him on the way by. Kieran plays garbage truck on shopping carts, he’s going as a sanitation worker for Halloween, and yes, he already knows what he wants to be when he grows up.
Islip’s environmental commissioner Gina Cacoperdo said it best: “Kindness doesn’t cost a thing, but it can make someone’s day.”
Happy birthday, Kieran. Shout out to the crews who work every street in every kind of weather. Keep it locked to WLIT.FM.
