Wegmans enthusiasts, the countdown has begun!
The much-anticipated arrival of Long Island’s first Wegmans supermarket is just around the corner. Located at 3240 Middle Country Road, the new store is slated to open its doors in early 2025, with a grand opening event planned for February, according to company representatives.
Situated in the DSW Plaza shopping center, the 95,000-square-foot store is nearing completion. Recent developments include the installation of exterior signage, signaling that the project is entering its final stages. (Scroll down to view photos of the store’s progress.)
This new Wegmans will fill a long-standing void in the shopping center, which has been without a grocery store since Fairway Market closed in 2016.
Construction at the Lake Grove location kicked off in earnest last November after the company secured all necessary permits. As the opening date approaches, Wegmans is gearing up to hire approximately 500 employees for both full-time and part-time positions. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce Wegmans to Long Island and become an integral part of this wonderful community,” said Dawn Cooper, the store manager. “We’re on the lookout for enthusiastic individuals who share our passion for food, people, and community service.”
The impending launch of Wegmans in Lake Grove has generated considerable excitement among both loyal customers and local officials. The family-owned chain, which has previously expanded into Brooklyn and Manhattan, is known for its high-quality products and exceptional customer service.
Lake Grove Mayor Robert Scottaline welcomed the news, stating that Wegmans would be a “positive addition to our village” and would invigorate local commerce. “The company’s stellar reputation will attract shoppers from near and far to Lake Grove,” he remarked when the expansion was first announced in April 2022.
Wegmans currently operates 110 stores across eight states and employs more than 53,000 people. The Lake Grove location represents the company’s continued growth and commitment to serving new communities.
