Supporters of former President Donald Trump began gathering at the Nassau Coliseum on Tuesday, one day before his scheduled rally. Even though the event wasn’t set to start until Wednesday evening, loyal Trump backers and vendors selling campaign merchandise were already on site, showcasing the enthusiasm that often precedes such high-profile political events.
However, police soon intervened, asking the crowd to leave the Coliseum grounds and closing the gates behind them, signaling the beginning of security preparations for the upcoming rally. As Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and local law enforcement officials emphasized, the county is taking extensive measures to ensure a safe and orderly event following an apparent assassination attempt at one of Trump’s golf courses earlier in the week.
Blakeman reassured the public that the Nassau Police Department would be fully mobilized, with every unit available for deployment. The county’s intelligence center will also be staffed and ready to handle any potential incidents. Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder added that the Coliseum’s parking lot would undergo thorough sweeps, both the night before and the day of the rally, as part of the security protocols.
For attendees, parking will be available at Eisenhower Park or Mitchel Field starting Tuesday evening. While the event itself begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, gates to the parking lot will open at 9 a.m., and doors to the Coliseum will open at 3 p.m. to accommodate the large crowd. So far, a staggering 60,000 people have signed up to attend the rally, underscoring the significance of this stop on the Trump campaign trail.
In light of the expected attendance, police warned that roads around Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum could be locked down from 3 p.m. Wednesday until the rally concludes. Motorists were advised to avoid the area, especially around Hempstead Turnpike, Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, Earle Ovington Boulevard, and Glen Curtiss Boulevard, and consider alternative routes to prevent traffic disruptions.
