DJ Michael Savage's love for music started early, with his parents' record collection: Motown, 60s rock, 70s disco, funk and soul, and 80s new wave and pop.
Growing up in New York City in the 90s, he was shaped by the golden era of hip hop, the radio DJs on Hot 97 and 98.7, and the city's mixtape DJs. Nights at Limelight, Tunnel, Palladium, Roxy and Sound Factory lit up his love for underground dance music.
He bought his first Technics turntables in 1997, started out at Thursday night college parties, and went on to spin at the NYC clubs he once went to as a fan. He has held residencies across Long Island, including more than ten years at Mulcahy's in Wantagh.
