WLIT.FM World Cup Long Island Update: Watch parties, nearby matches, and how locals can get in on the action

May 29, 20267 min read

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — The 2026 FIFA World Cup is almost here, and for Long Islanders, this one is different. The tournament is being hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with the New York/New Jersey region hosting eight matches at MetLife Stadium — including the World Cup Final on July 19.

That means Long Island is not just watching from a distance. We are close enough to attend matches, close enough to hit major fan events, and now we have multiple public watch parties and local soccer events starting to pop up across the Island.

Why this World Cup matters locally

For the first time, the men’s World Cup expands to 48 teams, creating the biggest tournament FIFA has ever staged. The full tournament runs June 11 through July 19, 2026, with the Final set for MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

For Long Islanders, that makes this a rare sports moment: the world’s biggest sporting event is happening in our backyard. You can watch from home, hit a local watch party, make a day trip into the city, or go all-in and attend a match in person.

Ticket availability and pricing vary.

The biggest local headline: MetLife hosts the Final

The New York/New Jersey host region will stage eight total World Cup matches, including:

  • Five group-stage matches

  • Two knockout-round matches

  • The FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 3:00 PM

MetLife Stadium has already confirmed the Final details, including an 11:00 AM door time and 10:00 AM parking lot opening for the July 19 championship match.

That is massive for Long Island fans. Even if you are not attending the Final, the entire region will feel the tournament: hotels, restaurants, bars, watch parties, fan activations, traffic, transit, and international visitors.

USA group-stage schedule Long Islanders should circle

The U.S. Men’s National Team is in Group D with Paraguay, Australia, and Türkiye. Here are the big watch dates:

Friday, June 12

USA vs. Paraguay
9:00 PM ET
Los Angeles Stadium

This is the first U.S. group-stage match and one of the best “prime-time watch party” nights for Long Island. Friday night, 9 PM, summer energy — expect bars and backyard parties to be fully locked in.

Friday, June 19

USA vs. Australia
3:00 PM ET
Seattle Stadium

This is the big Long Island public-watch-party date. Multiple local and regional viewing events are already being promoted around this match.

Thursday, June 25

USA vs. Türkiye
10:00 PM ET
Los Angeles Stadium

This could be the match that decides whether the U.S. advances, wins the group, or needs help. Late kickoff, high stakes, and a perfect night for watch parties.

What is there to do on Long Island?

Yes — there are already real Long Island World Cup events announced.

June 12: Free World Cup Watch Party at Stony Brook University

A large-scale FIFA World Cup Watch Party: Long Island is scheduled for Friday, June 12, 2026, at Stony Brook University.

The event is free and includes live match viewing, soccer programming, family activities, giveaways, food and beverage options, photo opportunities, sign-making stations, and entertainment.

The posted match lineup includes:

  • Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • USA vs. Paraguay

There is also a live performance scheduled from Third Eye Blind ahead of the USA match, which kicks off at 9:00 PM.

This looks like the biggest Long Island-wide watch event announced so far and should be one of the main options for families, casual fans, and anyone who wants a festival-style World Cup atmosphere without leaving the Island.

June 19: Soccer In The Park at Eisenhower Park

Another major Long Island event is set for Friday, June 19, when The Island FC and Nassau County host Soccer In The Park, a free public viewing celebration for USA vs. Australia.

The event is scheduled for 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre at Eisenhower Park.

The event is free, but ticketed, and includes:

  • Live broadcast of USA vs. Australia

  • Giveaways

  • Family-friendly activities

  • Concessions available for purchase

  • Free parking in nearby lots

  • Fans encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets

This is a very Long Island way to watch the World Cup: outdoors, family-friendly, accessible, and centered around the U.S. team.

It also connects to a bigger local soccer story: The Island FC, Long Island’s new professional soccer club, is building momentum ahead of its MLS NEXT Pro debut in 2027.

UBS Arena listing: worth watching

There is also an AXS listing for a 2026 World Cup Viewing Party: USA vs. Australia at UBS Arena on Friday, June 19 at 3:00 PM.

Because this appears on a ticketing marketplace listing, fans should verify directly with UBS Arena or the official event page before making plans. But if confirmed, that would add another major indoor Long Island option for the USA vs. Australia match.

What about bars and restaurants?

Expect Long Island sports bars, pubs, breweries, and restaurants with big-screen setups to lean into the World Cup heavily — especially for the USA matches.

The strongest local bar nights will likely be:

  • Friday, June 12 at 9 PM — USA vs. Paraguay

  • Friday, June 19 at 3 PM — USA vs. Australia

  • Thursday, June 25 at 10 PM — USA vs. Türkiye

  • Any U.S. knockout-round match if the team advances

  • The World Cup Final on Sunday, July 19

A few things to look for before choosing a spot:

  • Will they have sound on?

  • Are they taking reservations?

  • Are they showing every match or only USA matches?

  • Are there food/drink specials?

  • Will they keep the game on if there is another major sport happening?

  • Is it family-friendly or more of a late-night bar scene?

For the true soccer crowd, “sound on” matters. A bar can have 20 TVs, but if the commentary is muted and music is blasting, it will not feel like a real World Cup watch.

The Long Island player angle: Joe Scally

There is also a major local connection to the U.S. squad: Joe Scally, the Lake Grove native and former NYCFC academy standout, has been selected for another U.S. World Cup roster.

Scally’s story is one Long Island soccer families know well: local roots, elite youth development, a move to Europe, and now another chance to represent the U.S. on the biggest stage.

That gives Long Island fans one more reason to follow this tournament closely. This is not just USA soccer. There is a real Island connection on the roster.

Should you go to a match in person?

If you can swing it, the New York/New Jersey matches are the most realistic in-person World Cup option for Long Islanders. MetLife is not exactly around the corner, but compared with flying to another host city, it is very doable.

The Final will be the dream ticket, but the group-stage and knockout matches may be more realistic depending on availability and pricing.

Fans should expect:

  • High demand

  • Dynamic pricing

  • Expensive resale markets

  • Heavy traffic and transit planning

  • Long arrival windows

  • Strict stadium policies

Best Long Island plans by fan type

For families

The Stony Brook and Eisenhower Park watch parties are the best early options. Both are free, outdoor/community-style events with activities beyond just the match.

For die-hard soccer fans

Choose a bar or watch party that confirms sound on and attracts actual soccer supporters. The atmosphere matters as much as the screen.

For casual fans

Start with the June 12 USA vs. Paraguay game. Friday night, 9 PM, opening match for the U.S. — that is the easiest entry point.

For people who want the full experience

Go to a MetLife match or the Final weekend fan events around New York/New Jersey. The region is going to feel like a global sports capital.

For people staying home

No shame. World Cup house parties are undefeated. Big screen, food, friends, and no parking stress.

WLIT.FM takeaway

The 2026 World Cup is going to be one of the biggest sports moments our region has ever seen. Long Island may not be hosting matches inside our own stadium, but we are close enough to the Final, close enough to the fan events, and connected enough through local players and watch parties to feel fully part of it.

Between Stony Brook, Eisenhower Park, local bars, possible arena events, and MetLife just a trip away, Long Islanders have plenty of ways to experience the tournament.

We will keep updating this page as more Long Island watch parties, bar events, ticket opportunities, and fan experiences are announced.
