SMITHTOWN, N.Y. — Apparently even global pop superstars know when it’s worth making the trip to Long Island for dinner.

Ed Sheeran was spotted dining at Osteria Umbra in Smithtown Tuesday night, just days before he takes over MetLife Stadium for back-to-back performances on his massive LOOP Tour.

The restaurant shared photos from the surprise visit on Instagram Wednesday, revealing that Sheeran spent the evening enjoying a taste of authentic Umbrian cuisine at the Terry Road restaurant.

And while Osteria Umbra isn’t revealing everything the singer ordered, we do know which dish apparently won him over.

Ed Sheeran’s favorite? The cheesecake

According to Osteria Umbra, Sheeran sampled several of the restaurant’s dishes during his visit.

The restaurant told Greater Long Island that it couldn’t disclose his complete order, but the kitchen sent out a number of additional favorites for him to try throughout the evening.

The winner?

The Italian cheesecake topped with blueberry compote.

And this isn’t some special celebrity-only dessert. It’s right on Osteria Umbra’s regular dessert menu as “Sabrina’s Secret Cheesecake with Blueberry Compote.”

So yes — if you want to eat dessert like Ed Sheeran, you actually can.

A little bit of Umbria in Smithtown

Osteria Umbra has built its identity around the cuisine and hospitality of Umbria, Italy, the central Italian region often called the country’s “Green Heart.”

Executive Chef Marco Pellegrini and Chef de Cuisine Sabrina Vallorini are both from Foligno, Umbria, and the restaurant’s menu is designed around the region’s culinary traditions while incorporating fresh and seasonal ingredients.

The current menu includes dishes such as tableside homemade taglierini with black truffle sauce prepared in a Parmigiano Reggiano wheel, homemade gnocchi, veal ossobuco, wood-fired branzino and Chilean sea bass.

It’s located at 197 Terry Road in Smithtown, making Sheeran’s appearance a pretty unexpected celebrity sighting for anyone who happened to be having dinner there Tuesday night.

From Smithtown to MetLife

Sheeran’s Long Island dinner came immediately before a huge weekend in the New York market.

He is scheduled to perform at MetLife Stadium on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5, as part of his 2026 LOOP Tour.

Both shows are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., with stadium doors opening at 4:30 p.m. Macklemore, Lukas Graham and BIIRD are scheduled as special guests for the MetLife dates.

The two-night stop comes near the middle of Sheeran’s North American stadium run, which has already taken him through cities including Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Seattle, Toronto and Detroit before arriving in the New York area.

After MetLife, the tour continues to Philadelphia, Foxborough, Atlanta, Indianapolis and several other major U.S. markets.

A pretty good celebrity endorsement for a Long Island restaurant

Celebrity sightings at Long Island restaurants always get attention, but there’s something especially fun about this one.

Sheeran wasn’t appearing at an event.

He wasn’t doing a meet-and-greet.

He was simply having dinner at a Smithtown restaurant before playing two nights at one of the largest stadiums in the country.

Osteria Umbra marked the visit by thanking Sheeran publicly and saying it was a pleasure to share some Umbrian hospitality with him.

For the restaurant, it’s the kind of organic celebrity endorsement that money really can’t buy.

And for Long Islanders?

We now know what to order for dessert.
