“American Gladiators” Reboot set for Amazon Prime

Amazon’s streaming platform has officially announced the return of the iconic competition series “American Gladiators.” They are now conducting a nationwide search for contestants ready to compete against professional gladiators in a state-of-the-art arena.

This new arena will combine exciting new challenges with classic events from the original series, such as “Gauntlet,” “Hang Tough,” and “The Eliminator.”

Hints of the series’ revival surfaced in April when Range Sports signed on Gladiators creator Johnny Ferraro, with plans to expand the franchise into TV, film, attractions, merchandise, and live events.

The original “American Gladiators” series, which aired from 1989 to 1996, saw everyday contestants competing against elite gladiators in a variety of physical challenges. The show was brought back in 2008 as a primetime series on NBC, and earlier this year, the BBC rebooted it, quickly securing a second season.

“American Gladiators is a timeless format that continues to captivate audiences worldwide,” said Lauren Anderson, head of brand and content innovation at Amazon MGM Studios. “We are excited to bring both new and nostalgic elements to Prime Video viewers, celebrating the best of the original series.”
