Thousands Turn Out for 2025 “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Across NYC & Long Island
Pink took over the region on Sunday, Oct. 19, as the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks filled Central Park and Jones Beach—with additional Tri-State events from Westchester to Albany. Eyewitness News crews reported tens of thousands stepping off in Central Park at 8 a.m., where survivors, caregivers, and families gathered around ACS resource tents and a “Survivor & Thriver Village.”
On Long Island, Jones Beach once again hosted one of the nation’s largest Making Strides gatherings. Organizers reported 81,479 participants and $2.45 million raised, surpassing last year’s turnout, according to News 12 and local officials.
The movement extended beyond NYC and Nassau: Westchester walkers traced a 3-plus-mile route starting at Manhattanville University to raise funds for research and patient services such as free rides to treatment and lodging near hospitals. Albany’s Washington Park saw strong crowds as well.
At Central Park, ABC7 highlighted survivor stories and on-site support, underscoring ACS programs like Hope Lodge and Road to Recovery, and the broader progress driven by screening and prevention.
Why it matters
Since its launch more than three decades ago, Making Strides has grown into the country’s largest network of breast-cancer events, channeling community energy into research, patient navigation, transportation, and education. Fundraising for 2025 continues into year-end.
